Program Director Report
Jubilee Community Center, Annual Meeting
February 1, 2009
1) Mission Graphics
- Due to the current economic crisis, we have experienced a decline in gross receivables (an estimated 18% decrease) as compared to 2007. Just in the month of November alone, we received 30 less jobs than the previous year. The decline was due in part to the restructuring of the Episcopal Church Center with consolidation of many different departments and functions into 4 major centers. This greatly reduced our website maintenance services to the Church Center.
- Payments are coming in slower than expected as compared to last year.
- We are looking to overcome the finical difficult in 2009 by offering in house mail services. In the past, we had outsourced these services to outside mail fulfillment houses. Our mailing services will be located in the 1st floor, large classroom. The (2) Saturday art classes currently occupying this room will be relocated to the basement parish hall.
- New items we currently have include cufflinks, pull-up banners, water bottles, lapel pins and buttons. We will continue to expand our line of promotional items, especially with the upcoming 2009 General Convention.
- In addition, we are planning to reduce operating costs by looking into alternative phone services. Currently, we are using the internet phone system, Voipcheap, to reduce phone expenses.
- We foresee that 2009 will be a very difficult year, primarily due to the tough economic times.
2) Ecoserve
- Starting in 2009, we will be adding more adult computer classes on weekends. For example, there will be a short course for parents on how to monitor their children’s use of internet websites and chat rooms.
- Starting in spring 2009, as the weather gets warmer, we will have adult day and evening computer classes as well.
- Our goal for 2009 is to increase website maintenance/design services to the Episcopal Church Center and to other parishes.
3) Jubilee Enrichment Programs
- Since Mother Ajung is relocated her offices to the previous rector’s office, the Saturday Enrichment Program offices have now moved to the 1st floor (which was originally used by the Saturday Chinese class).
- The Chinese class will be moved to the basement parish hall, along with the 2 painting classes from the large, 1st floor classroom.
- By relocating these 3 separate classes to 1 central location, we are also hoping to consolidate energy usage into 1 heating source.
- In spring 2009, the Enrichment Program will start a Music Headstart Program in the large, 1st floor classroom. This program was first implemented in Princeton around 7 years ago to encourage parent involvement with their children.
- There will be a piano recital for students of Jubilee’s Music Program scheduled for Saturday, 12/13/08, at 4:30 pm.
4) Jubilee Youth Chorale
- Since Mother Ajung is planning to move the Sunday contemporary service to Friday evenings, the Friday Residence Choir was to move to the basement music room. However, as we have 16 Residence Choir members at this time, we will try to use the large, 1st floor classroom to accommodate everyone. In lieu of a piano, we will try to use a keyboard. We are hoping that the children’s noise level will not affect the contemporary service.
- The chorale will perform for community senior citizens at the December 20, 2008 Christmas concert at 1:00 pm. Fidelis Care, who has traditionally sponsored this event for the past several years, will not be able to do so this year due to budget cuts. We are asking St. Vincent’s to see if they will be able to use their health fair funds to support this concert for seniors.
5) Jubilee Music Series
- The 1st concert of this music series has been scheduled for Saturday, 12/7/08, at 4:00 pm.
- By the time of the December vestry meeting, we will be in the process of planning the 2nd concert of the series, tentatively scheduled for February 2009. This 2nd concert will feature Chinese instruments. This event will help celebrate our Chinese New Year Festival.
- All expenses for the Music Series are supported by donations.
